Permalinks, short for “permanent links,” are the URLs to your individual posts, pages, and other content on your WordPress site. They are important for both user experience and search engine optimization (SEO), as they provide a clear, descriptive, and permanent structure to your site’s navigation.

Our theme supports and enhances WordPress’s permalink settings, ensuring that your URLs are both user-friendly and optimized for search engines. Here’s how you can configure permalinks for your website:

  1. Access Permalink Settings: In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Permalinks’. Here, you’ll find various options to structure your URLs.
  2. Choose a Permalink Structure: WordPress offers several built-in structures, such as Day and Name, Month and Name, Numeric, Post Name, and Custom Structure. The ‘Post Name’ option is often preferred for its simplicity and SEO-friendliness.
  3. Set Custom Permalinks (Optional): If you have specific needs, you can use the ‘Custom Structure’ option to create a personalized URL structure using available tags (like %category%, %postname%, %author%, etc.).
  4. Save Changes: After selecting your desired permalink structure, click ‘Save Changes’ to apply these settings.
  • Consistency is Key: Once you choose a permalink structure, it’s best to stick with it. Changing permalinks after content is published can lead to broken links unless properly redirected.
  • Custom Post Types and Taxonomies: If you are using custom post types or custom taxonomies, consider how these fit into your permalink structure for optimal organization and SEO.
  • Avoid Date-Based Permalinks for Evergreen Content: If your content is not time-sensitive, using a date-based structure can make it seem outdated, even if the content is still relevant.

By setting up permalinks correctly, you ensure that your website is not only better organized but also more appealing to search engines, helping improve your site’s overall visibility and user experience.
